MIRC Statement

MIRC joins our colleagues at the Michigan Advocacy Program in condemning the recent murders and longstanding structural racism that deny justice and dignity to Black communities and people of color. We remain committed to advancing racial justice in solidarity with Black communities across Michigan through our individual client representation, systemic advocacy, and community partnerships.

We, the members of the Legal Services Association of Michigan, are devastated by the senseless murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and so many persons of color before them.

We stand in solidarity with Black communities throughout Michigan and the country in demanding justice and calling upon the law enforcement community to restrain and take responsibility for those in their ranks who disrespect the rights and lives of people of color.

We condemn white supremacy.

We condemn the denial of implicit bias and the refusal of individuals to address their biases.

We reject the comfort of neutrality and silence.

We understand that anti-racism is our responsibility and a necessary element of our work. Our work must include dismantling the structures and systems that allow and perpetuate white supremacy and racism.

We humbly commit to difficult conversations and community-led partnerships. We can and must do better.

Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. -MLK

How can I find information on someone who has been detained in Michigan?

  • online detainee locator. Search requires full name, date of birth, and country of birth OR A# and country of birth.
  • Vinelink. With the exception of a handful of county correctional facilities, almost all jurisdictions in Michigan can be searched using this simple-to-use website. This website is often updated sooner than the ICE online detainee locator. Search can be performed by name only.
